    Moomba Show Jumping Success

Fiona Matthews, Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Moomba Show Jumping 2010, It was as if we had a direct line to the weather bureau on Monday the 8th of March 2010, because despite the worst hail storm and over 60mm of rain over the days preceding Moomba Show jumping, and heavy lightening in the western sky just before daybreak on the day, almost no rain fell on the event, and indeed the surface of the arena was perfect for show jumping, soft, spongy and not at all slippery. We had a record number of entrants into the 2010 Moomba, since the times when it was a 2 day show and we catered for A and B grade riders (92 riders entered). For the first time this year we introduced the PCAV's new F grade, and had 17 riders compete in this event. E grade, our biggest field, had to be split into 2 as we had 34 entrants by the closing day; caused a little bit of panic in getting ribbons for this event, but the company who make them for us was fantastic. (Computer Sashes). D grade had 28 entries and C grade had the biggest turnout for a number of years with 18 entries. We had many riders from Dandenong Ranges competing, the largest number so far. We had a number of riders from our club attain ribbons, these were... D grade: Brittany on Taffy: 5th 2 Round Championship E grade: Elishia on Cody: 6th 2 Round Championship Darius on Jasper: 5th 2 Round Championship Elishia on Cody: 6th 1 round plus winning round Darius on Jasper: 1st Top Score Natalie on Apache: 2nd Tops Score Full results will be put up on the website as soon as possible. In the meantime, enjoy the photographs taken by Mark Bailey, and if you are interested in ordering these or others, please contact your secretary and she will give you Mark's email address and he will send you the files. Cockatoo Supercross results 10

    Cockatoo PC Supercross

We had 3 riders compete in this during the summer break, Eleni, Zoe and Brittany. This competition differs to all the others, in that it is in essence a one day event 'missing' the dressage phase. It is scored using rules of the horse trials, and a complicated timing mechanism that seeks to get riders to finish in an optimum range, so events such as the SMZ 'Speed to Safety' training day is an excellent way to learn how fast your horse is going so as to be able to complete such an event in the appropriate time.

All three riders had a fantastic day, all going clear in the show jumping, but Eleni riding her mums horse Pranks brought home an unexpected 6th place.  Eleni has been riding Pranks to get him 'going' and 'going' he is. Well done Eleni.

    Macclesfield Australia Day Show Jumping

Darius riding Jasper was the only Dandy Ranges rider to compete in the Australia day show jumping competition an Macclesfield, which was a pity because the day was fantastic and the prizes amazing.

The day was very kind weather wise, not too hot and no rain. They have a new jumping arena up there which has removed the danger of slipping that some of the riders faced last year – one of our riders Elishia nearly had a spectacular fall, but saved herself to still place 4th.

Darius placed in 2 of the three events they ran, coming 6th in the 2 round championship (a very challenging course, very few riders even got around, many getting refusals or eliminations on the ‘wall’ jump).  In the Power and  Speed competition they placed 2nd, only being beaten by 1.5 seconds to a very experienced and speedy pair from Yarra Junction PC.

Darius was determined to beat this pair in the AM3 competition over one round, and had some fantastic ‘lines’ mapped our to make the course as concise as possible.  He successfully make every line, but unfortunately Jasper brushed the wave dazzle board with a hind foot as he was turning to the next jump in mid air, and it fell, putting him out of contention.
