Mini-Mornington News
Fiona Matthews, Monday, 18 August 2008Results from Mini-mornington 08 horse trials. A first and a fifth at Mini-Mornington
Dandenong ranges two teams at mini-Mornington grade 5 horse trials had varied success. Our first team (the Dandy Lions) made up of Lucy, Elizabeth and Natalie who were partnered by a Lily from another club were not successful in placing overall, but Natalie riding Apache won her dressage in her ring. Natalie's pony felt at ease at Mornington as he originally belonged to that club so Natalie and her mum discovered when they arrived. Elizabeth and Lucy both enjoyed their first day out at an event such as this and we hope that the two girls will continue to compete for our club.
Our other team made up of Alexis, Jade, Paige and Darius were successful in gaining a ribbon. Jade and Alexis were both equal second in their ring after dressage and Paige was 6th. so we were off to an excellent start. After all scores were added up, with a few jumping penalties from all riders, the team ended up with a beautiful purple 5th placing ribbon. The cross country caught many riders out, with very few clear rounds overall. The winning team was just about the only team to go clear (they were from Mornington) and so to place was really excellent.
Thanks to all the mums and dad's that went down on the day, I think they had a great time 'bonding'. Especial thanks to our two team managers Jane and Dennis.
n.b. Photo's to come when our team photographer gets the poto's to the editor.

Show Jumping Clinic success
Fiona Matthews, Friday, 1 August 2008Saturday Clinic Fun
Riders were again treated to a fun Saturday Clinic at the Pony Club grounds on the 26th of July. Trish our DC is running monthly show jumping clinics for any Pony Club rider who wishes to attend, learn and have a bit more experience with show jumping. We are getting all our 'scary' jumps out too so you get practice over more than just a pole jump.
I urge any Dandy Ranges rider to come along and have a go. Heights range from the lowest jumps at about 9.30 to B grade height and above if necessary, later on. This week Kate with both Taboo and Dartagnon, Jessica B. with Star, Hayley C. with Astro Boy, Elishia with Maggie and Darius with Jasper all had a go; not so good a turn up as last time but still all riders gained a lot. Simone and Puglsley also came along to use the grounds but Pugsley had a different idea. He failed to clear his 'bright' idea with his rider and so Simone had a painful and rather spectacular fall. Hopefully she will soon be able to have a go at the jumps soon.

Mentone C/T day results.
Fiona Matthews, Friday, 1 August 2008Dandenong Ranges Rider Places at Mentone
Jade and her faithful mount Mickey, have again done Dandenong Ranges proud at the recent Mentone Pony Club Combined Training and Dressage day. Jade placed first in grade 5 combined training. She also placed in the pure dressage section coming in 3rd also in grade 5. We had other riders there on the day, Kate also competed in grade 4 on Dartagnon. Elishia and Darius were unable to go as their strapper (mum) injured herself and Elishia's horse Maggie was sore from being a 'hoon' in the paddock.
