Dandenong Ranges Riders Successful at Monash Show Jumping.

Dandenong Ranges riders had an extremely successful day at the 2010 Monash Show jumping day. We had 5 riders compete. Zoe (Tricky), Bree (Shaggy), Celine (Greystar) and Darius (Jasper) made up our team, but we did have another rider Natalie (Brooklyn) compete individually.

We were extremely successful on the day. Celine gained a 1st in the one round stakes in E grade, Bree gained two seconds in D grade, one in the 1 round stakes and one in the table A competition in D grade. Darius, in his second only D grade competition, placed 4th in the 1 round stakes and 6th in the Table A competition. Natalie also placed, gaining a 4th in the one round stakes in E grade.

The team competition was hot over the day, with St Andrews PC placing first (they are one of our hot competitors at Moomba), Mornington Peninsula were second and behind them by a measly 0.17 points, we placed. A fantastic effort, and thanks to all the parents who again came down and supported the team.

August 2010 purchase of new x/c jumps by junior committee.

    Apex and arrowhead jumps arrive

Junior committee purchases new Cross Country Jumps

The junior committee have done a fantasitc job and have used some of their savings to purchase two new cross country jumps, somthing they have been wanting to do for years.  The committee began their fund raising by running a number of raffles at rallies and at our Moomba Show Jumping days.  They also used the 2009 Moomba Show Jumping competition to run a cake stall. Each junior committee member brought along something to sell and this raised a couple of hundred dollars!  The junior committee then entered the Horse Deals Pony Club of the Month competition and won $200!

They then used this money as collateral for a chocolate drive and so ended up with over $1,000. What to do with this? The junior committee chose to purchase 2 cross country jumps, a grade 4 arrowhead (very narrow and scary - just what we need to train over for competitions) and a grade 4 apex jump, again a scary and technical jump which can only serve to train our riders up for competitions.

A huge thanks must go to the Junior Committee and congratulations to you all for your team work in getting this project completed.  What next, we may ask???

    Introduction of cloth state/zone badges.

Cloth badges for state and zone riders.

Cloth badges for zone and state riders.

The committee has decided to thank the riders who represent Dandenong Ranges Horse and Pony Club at state and zone level events by presenting them with a cloth badge that can be sewn to their saddle blanket.  To date the only recognition such riders gain is a 'state competitors' badge if a rider has ridden at state level, but now they can display their achievements by displaying their saddle blanket badges.

A badge will be awarded every time a rider competes in a team zone run event (Mini-tooradin, games, flat, musical), or in an event that can directly qualify them for a state event such as the zone dressage and show jumping days.  Riders competing at state level in the Interzone Horse Trials, state Horse Trials, Show Jumping or dressage will also gain a saddle blanket badge, but this time reflecting that they are a 'state level rider'

These badges can be seen below. however the colours are different, they are on a royal blue background, the stitching is in white for the zone badge, yellow for the state badge.  Many of our riders have been awarded these, look out for them!

2010 horse trials results Inter zone

    Interzone horse trials.

    Interzone Horse Trails - Werribee

Jenna and Darius rode in the recent Interzone Horse Trials at Werribee, Jenna riding  MacAttack rode in a composite team at grade 3, and Darius on Jasper in a grade 4 team.  Both riders did not place, but did extremely well and had a fabulous time.

It was Jenna and Mac's first time at Werribee and luckily for them the weather was fantastic, a great dry sunny break between the rather ordinary weather we have been having.  Jenna went clear cross country and only pulled one rail in the show jumping. Mac was apparently very keen to GO! and got a little flat over one jump.  According to Jenna their dressage wasn't the best they've ever done but the scores say differently. They did very well indeed given it was a state competition.

Darius and Jasper did the best dressage they have ever done, and did a lovely clear show jumping round.  The cross country was good, but a pulling Jasper decided that the double jump was not to be jumped first time so got one refusal. The rest of the course was clear, including hooning through the water, and bounding over the double in which the second element was a ditch.  Darius' team ended up 8th overall in the state, fantastic effort when there were 32 teams in grade 4.

Thanks to the parents who each had to do 'a duty' over the weekend, and both Darius and Jenna would recommend that anyone have a go at this event in the future. It is a great way to get to know riders from other clubs in our zone or across the state as Jenna did.  We now look forward to the September Werribee PC horse trials.

(Apologies that the photographs are only of Darius and his team, we were unable to get any of Jenna).

    Tooradin Derby

     Derby Day success

Celine on Greystar, Zoe on Tricky (sorry Zoe, I can't spell his proper name) and Eleni on In Your Dreams had a successful day at the recent Tooradin Derby day.  Celene placed first in grade 5 AM7 show jumping much to her surprise.  She actually thought she wasn't doing too well so withdrew from the last event (the equitation)!

Zoe rode in grade 5 in the Derby and placed fourth.  Well done She also placed in the AM7 show jumping.  Eleni also placed in the Derby day finishing 6th overall in a very strong field.

We had a number of other riders there on the day, Bree on Howdoyoulikemenow did really well to go clear all day but with a field of 30+ it was very difficult to place in Grade 4/D.  Elishia on Sparx Might Fly also competed, going clear in their first ever D grade show jumping and just getting one refusal in the cross country part of the Derby. Darius on Jasper went clear in the Derby, but was unsuccessful in getting a place in the show jumping.

The day was really ordinary, very windy and wet, but all Dandenong Ranges Riders had a great day and represented our club well. Thanks to all the parents who came down and supported the riders.
